Verdict: False

The US Embassy in Zimbabwe dismissed the advert as false saying; Visa information, application processes and requirements can be found on their official website . They also added that information on exchange and employment opportunities can be found on Bridge USA site.

Beyond the verification by the US government, there are many red flags in the advert that make it suspicious.

What are the red flags in the advert?

  1. Spelling and grammatical errors
  2. The ‘America Diversity Lottery Program’ referenced above does not exist rather there is an Electronic Diversity Visa Program which is currently closed.
  3. No details of the agency coordinating the program
  4. The application link does not lead to an official government portal
  5. Suspicious eligibility criteria: One of the qualification requirements is for applicants one has to share the application link with 5 groups or 15 friends on Whatsapp.
