Factsheet: What are the latest Cholera numbers in Zimbabwe?

Zimbabwe has been battling its latest Cholera outbreak since February 2023, and the number of cases has been rising over the last couple of weeks.

Zimbabwe’s northern neighbour, Zambia, is also in the grip of a Cholera crisis, while outbreaks have been seen as well in South Africa, Malawi and Mozambique in the past year.

Health authorities, including the World Health Organisation (WHO), are running and collaborating in Cholera awareness and response programmes in the region.

What are the latest numbers in Zimbabwe?

According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care’s Situational Report for 18 January 2024, Zimbabwe has recorded 2,231 confirmed cases and 71 deaths with 339 active cases.

Currently, Manicaland has the most active cases with 106 ahead of Masvingo (82) and Harare (42). Four deaths have been recorded lately with three in Midlands and one in Mashonaland  Central.

Since 2023, 13 African countries have been hit by the Cholera epidemic recording more than 200,000 cases and 3,000 deaths. Globally, 667,000 Cholera cases were recorded last year resulting in 4,000 deaths.
