A viral WhatsApp message on Grade 7 results is fake, ZIMSEC says

CLAIM: ZIMSEC 2021 Grade Seven results are out

SOURCE: Social media

Verdict: False. A message circulating appears to be from ZIMSEC website, but it is not

On Wednesday, January 26, a message went viral claiming that the Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC) has released results for the Grade Seven examinations in 2021.

The message in circulation reads:

“2021 Grade 7 results out: The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council has released the December 2021 Grade Seven national results. The results are despatched (sic) to Zimsec regional offices. Examination centre heads can collect the results from Zimsec regional offices from the 26 January 2022 (today).”

ZimFact has checked with ZIMSEC Public Relations Officer Nicky Dlamini, who said the ZIMSEC had not issued the notice. Results are yet to be released, she said.

While the message has a link to the ZIMSEC website to make it appear legitimate, there is no such announcement on the exam council’s official site.

The Zimbabwean school calendar has been disturbed by the COVID-19 pandemic since last year, resulting in Ordinary and Advanced Level candidates writing their exams from December to January, as opposed to the traditional October to November exam calendar.

Conclusion

ZIMSEC Grade seven candidates are still awaiting 2021 results. A social media message claiming that results are already out is not true, according to ZIMSEC.
